One of our great passions is historical reenactment, what we call "experiential" history. There is so much to be learned by doing!
We participate in historical reenactment and research as Morgan's Compangnie, an affiliation of historians and interpreters who portray personae from the Middle Ages through the mid-19th Century of Europe and America. The company marries maritime arts with the skills of "land lubbers" supporting The Siren, a fictional ship of privateers and landsmen under the "command" of Captain William Morgan.
Demonstrable skills include but are not limited to
- Nautical Arts - navigation, seamanship, lore and songs of the sea, boatbuilding
Crew members are also volunteer sailors on real tallships - the Golden Hinde, the Nina, the Lady Washington and the HM Bark Endeavor - and own and work on their flotilla of sailing and pulling boats.- Metal Arts - blacksmithing, casting, moneying, arms and armor, chain mail
- Fiber Arts - traditional spinning, weaving and dyeing
- Domestic Arts and Skills - firemaking, period cookery, herbalism & traditional healing
- Sciences - scientific instruments, medicine and healing arts, astronomy and astrology, mathematics
- Leatherworking
- Gunnery and Artillery
- Music, Songs and Games
